Body Electric Presents: NOW EX @ TOEKOMSTMUZIEK (Music/Poetry/Spoken Word)

After the awesome and magical first five editions we are super proud to present the 6th Volume of Body Electric!! A semi-curated open mic night bringing together DJs, poets, comedians, musicians and spoken word performers – it’s an eclectic event without rules or themes, aiming to break down the borders between our different art forms. There’ll be craft beers (+ wine, soft drinks etc.) & tasty Indo food, arcade games and a fair amount of dancing. @bodyelectricpresents is about bringing people together and making something new.

Body Electric is an eclectic night which brings together DJs, poets, comedians, musicians, spoken word performers and artists for an event without rules or themes – just talent and top entertainment.

With performers from all genres, plus DJs and visual artists, Body Electric aims to break down the borders between different art forms, encouraging performers and audience members alike to embrace their vulnerabilities and celebrate creativity in all its diversity.

This special edition of Body Electric will be featuring fast-rising East London alt pop artist Now Ex, @your.now.ex,  live at Toekomstmuziek, for his first ever show in The Netherlands.

It’s a night to challenge preconceptions and discover different ideas, a place to embrace fresh art and make new connections.

Held at Toekomstmuziek in the Houthavens, there’ll be craft beers (+ wine, soft drinks etc.) and delicious Indonesian food available, plus a gallery space where independent artists from Amsterdam will have a selection of work for sale.

East London alt pop artist Now Ex just kicked off a whole new era of dark, electro stadium anthems with ferocious new singles Hospital Lights, Spirits In The City, Impossible to Love and Where Did All The People Go – the first songs in a seven track EP due in March, 2023. The pseudonym for songwriter and critically acclaimed film director, Nick Hampson, Now Ex is multi dimensional pop that was built for the big screen.

Nick’s films, the most recent of which was nominated for an Emmy award in 2021, have a lot in common with his music – they both create and explore parallel worlds that are one moment laced with painful euphoria, and the next flowing with an infectious lust for life. It’s character driven, emotional pop music that traverses eras, geographical landscapes and social boundaries, moving from urban metropolises to the barren flyover states.

Nick’s first EP, Sad Kids In America, has amassed over half a million streams, and in the process has built a sonic and visual style that’s unique to the project, Clash magazine hailing it as “widescreen pop music that tackles fresh challenges at every turn”. This visual identity, anchored by colour coded EP eras, makes Now Ex gigs truly memorable. In April, 2023, Now Ex will headline London’s prestigious Omeara, before setting off on their first European headline tour in early June.
