In Concert: Donkey Kung Fu

Amsterdam-based kung fu trio. The band incorporates many styles of alternative rock, electronics and unconventional song structures, with influences of noise-, rave, and pop music. Donkey Kung Fu’s music is characterized by quickly alternating rhythmic patterns, start-stop dynamics, live improvisation, and the (not so delicate) use of many effect pedals, samplers and loopers. Sometimes it sounds like a broken Atari computer with bouncing electronics and robotic bleeps, other times like a fairground ride with QOTSA-esque tempo changes. Donkey Kung Fu’s debut EP M3tal was released on 29 October 2021, which is a musical ode to the band’s teenage love: metal. The second EP Kung Fu EP was released exactly six months later, which is heavily dosed with effect pedals. Donkey Kung Fu has played on numerous festivals, including Popronde, Incubate and Grasnapolsky.
