In Concert: La Banda Fantastica

Converging from all corners of the Latin America, with a local Dutch spice, La Banda Fantastica is a Cumbia band conformed by musicians from Argentina, Chile, Mexico and the Netherlands.

Native of Colombia, Cumbia is a traditional style that spread all over the Latin American world, adapting and adopting local rhythms and styles in every country and remaining relevant as a genre to this day, also bringing it’s own sub-genres to the table, such as Peruvian psychedelic style ‘’Chicha’’, or Argentinian style Cumbia, better known as ‘’Cumbia Villera’’, to name a few.

The history of the band started 10 years ago in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with a desire to bring a more Latin American atmosphere into the Dutch musical scene, conceived from a Latin style jam session, by Ruben Lanzieri on Percussions and Jonathan Ramirez on Bass Guitars and Rhythm Guitars, amongst others. Nowadays, besides the remaining original members, the band’s complete set up has grown in variety to also include more percussions, guitars, singers, and saxophone.

La Banda Fantastica, having members that come from such diverse places within Latin America such as the Andes mountains, the flat lands of the Rio de La Plata area, or the deserts, such as the Atacama or Sonora, provide their experience as musicians with every bit of their influences-from their local styles and genres, with Cumbia itself; as well as “cumbianizing” classic tunes from such bands as Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, and Policarpo Calle. All of this makes a La Banda Fantastica show a whole experience that takes the audience on a trip throughout the Latin American culture, of which Cumbia could be considered an ambassador.

Over 10 years of history, La Banda Fantastica has performed in front of thousands of people, at major venues and festivals across the Netherlands, such as Down the Rabbit’s Hole, Paradiso, OT301, Worm, Fringe, Welcome to the Village, Landjuweel, and the Fusion Festival in Germany. + alta cumbia nite w/Los Mirlos del Peru.
